Skerries Under 15's 38
Newbridge Under 15's 20

In spite of the extra hour in bed, Skerries got off to a sleepy start and conceded a try in less than a minute, following a turnover in midfield. But captain Tom Mulvaney led the way back with a series of sprited drives and, from a scrum near the line, scrum half Ruari Woods spotted a gap and dived over for the equalizing try. From then on Skerries took control in a physical encounter, with Odhran Dunne and Sam Toft putting in a lot of hard work. Niall McCann also put in a big effort and got the next try. On 20 minutes, Luke Cullen took off from 40 metres to score again. Ciaran Frawley converted both tries to make it 19-5. But when Skerries didn’t control a kick ahead, the Newbridge right wing got a clear run from his 22 to score, and the conversion made it 19-12 at half time.

An early second-half penalty brought Newbridge to within 4 points. Skerries then turned up the presssure, with Jake Deering stuck in at every opportunity, but they passed up several overlap chances out wide, turning back instead into reach of the heavy Newbridge pack. Eventually Odhran Dunne burst over and Ciaran Frawley converted.

Lorcan Jones’ pace and aggression was a constant threat to Newbridge and after several exciting runs, he chipped ahead and touched down for a deserved try. Frawley converted from a difficult angle to put Skerries comfortably ahead at 31-15. David’O’Dwyer got Skerries’ final try, down the left wing and then scarily close to the dead ball line to give Frawley an easy conversion. Newbridge had one last push upfield and were rewarded with the last score of the match.

The result, 38-20, was a fair result in a hard challenge.
