15.05.13 - After 17 years Ed Caraher, our veteran centre retires from senior rugby
The boyish face in the photo of the 1998 cup final team has decided to hang up the boots. What wonderful service he has rendered to his club over a decade and a half. He arrived on the scene as a fleet footed instinctive attacking rugby player and developed into an all round quality centre - read the full article here

THANK YOU so much to everyone who helped, participated or turned out to support the GIFT of LIFE weekend for CYCLE AGAINST SUICIDE. The whole weekend was a fantastic success. The Gift of LIFE team acknowledge and really appreciate all the hard work and help that went into the weekend from people who helped with providing food for the cyclists, marshalling the car park and all the Cyclists who took part in the whole event into Skerries.

02.03.13 - Ulster Bank League Division 2B versus Clonakilty RFC
Considering the copious amounts of water that has spilled onto the Holmpatrick turf in recent months the surface has dried considerably and is now friable, giving conditions conducive to running rugby. The home support (and notably the shrewd rugby brains that frequent the ‘north terrace’) are usually stimulated when served dynamic, fast open rugby - click here to read the match report | view the league table here

26.02.13 - Skerries Under 19's Claim League Honours at Snowy ALSAA - Youth & Minis
Skerries claimed the Leinster Schools/Youths League title with an emphatic 5 try victory over DLSP at a snowy ALSAA on Sunday morning the 24th of February. They marked their intent within five minutes of the kick-off with an incisive break from scrum-half Robbie Jenkinson from a ruck on the half-way who then found Milo McCarthy with a floated pass and the centre sprinted in from 30m to finish neatly - click here to read the match report

25.02.13 - Ulster Bank League Division 2B versus Rainey Old Boys RFC - Hatrick Park
Rainey Old Boys 1st XV have led this league from the last whistle on the first day and should win it with just two more wins. Coupled with the ‘winning habit’ they will be unstoppable - click here to read the match report | view the league table here

18.02.13 - Ulster Bank League Division 2B versus Navan, Holmpatrick
A game of 2 halves. Skerries supporters are getting used to their team finishing one game well and starting another in the same mode. The last 2 games are this case in point. Well help is at hand as Skerries RFC are introducing the Goat Swap Shop. What better way to support your club and watch it grow than to send your outgrown gear to another player.

And if you're looking for a different size in exchange, we'll help find it for you too!

We're collecting all sizes of rugby kit in good condition. Just drop the washed gear into the box beside the shop marked Goat Swap Shop and then keep an eye on the Skerries RFC Facebook page for what we have and come down when we’re open and hopefully you’ll find something for the stretching goat in your house.

21.01.13 - Ulster Bank All Ireland League Div 2B vs Sundays Well, December 8th, 2012

Skerries had just enough (injury) time to retake this game that should have been theirs before the 1st half ended. Out half Conal Keane eased over (just) the winning points from over 40m out and at an acute angle and from a kickers less favoured side that heralded the final whistle. Phew! - click here to read the match report | view the league table here | click here to view match photos

14.12.12 - Leinster Senior League Shield Final versus Naas RFC at Coolmine RFC
Privilege is a word that is often used in times of recession and of course it means different things to different people, depending on their own particular circumstances. Privilege has a deeper and truer meaning when it rubs shoulders with sincerity, as it seems to excite the more basic emotions of the human spirit - click here to read the match report

19.11.12 - Ulster Bank All Ireland League Div 2B, November 17th, 2012 vs City of Armagh RFC
You’d travel a long way (and indeed still be travelling) and attend many a game to see a better try than the last of Skerries three which was finished by Kevin McGrath yesterday in Holmpatrick. Those lucky enough to witness it will sing its praises for this and future seasons. City of Armagh 1st XV are an impressive side who have many strings to their bow but they too would agree that it was special - click here to read the match report | view the league table here

Almost a year since their last home defeat Skerries were narrowly beaten by Naas on Saturday. A former player with Skerries RFC, Declan Moore and his employers, AXA, have put in place a great scheme where members, supporters and their families can help raise funds for Skerries Rugby Football Club in the current season. All that needs to happen is for 50 people to take out a new Home or Motor Insurance policy with AXA and they, AXA, will donate €1,000.00 to the club. It's that simple! The policies must be purchased before the end of 2012.

All you need to do is drop into your local AXA branch in Swords to get a quote and mention Teamwork, tell them you are supporting Skerries RFC or alternatively you can call their number on 1890 247 365 and ask for Declan or contact Declan direct on 087 9690535 for an insurance quote.

The Minis players wore their jerseys with pride and formed a guard of honour for the Firsts as they emerged from the changing room. The U9s showed off their skills at half time. The BBQ queue was 20 deep until the burgers finally ran out. Joe Glennon lifted the Leinster League Div 1A trophy to a mighty roar - click here to read the match report | click here to view match photos | 2XV photos | view the final league table here

29.02.12 - THE DAY BEFORE YESTERDAY AT ROCKALYOKE - By Dropout
The passage of time is an odd phenomenon. We envy time its ability to change things without having to scratch itself. A week or two ago The "Doofer" Ryan arrived back in the midst of his tribe The Skerrigoats. He is in his hinterland, in his natural habitat, if you like, after a sojourn of a quarter of a century in the Persian Gulf. And around Rockalyoke certain people, at the mention of his name, will be asking in cavalier fashion "Who the f**k is The Doofer Ryan". By the same token, many of the few who will embark on the short canter into the past that this article offers will be making the same vulgarly dismissive enquiry of Barry Hurley or Peter Galbraith - read the full article here

28.02.12 - Skerries 1XV vs Coolmine, Leinster League Div 1A

Over 30 years since they last won a major trophy, Skerries are Leinster League Div 1A champions. They travelled to Coolmine on Sunday with a cavalcade of supporters, knowing that a bonus point win would see them take the trophy regardless of results elsewhere. In the final move of the match, centre Conal Keane earned that bonus when he danced his way through the defence, across the line and into Skerries folklore - click here to read the match report | click here to view match photos | 2XV photos

23.02.12 - Fixtures this weekend
On Sunday, Skerries travel to Coolmine for another vital match. At 1.30, the seconds kick off and it would be great if supporters could travel earlier than normal to get behind the team. Then, at 3pm the Firsts play their penultimate Leinster league Div 1a match. With a five-point gap at the top of the table, it's obvious how big this is to title hopes. Skerries has a dedicated travelling support that we can be proud of, and we're hoping for bigger numbers than ever to roar the team on. Here's how to get there. http://www.coolminerfc.com/index.php?id=503

20.02.12 - Towns Cup Second Round vs Dundalk - match report

Skerries knocked out Towns Cup holders Dundalk in a scrappy but tough encounter at Holmpatrick on Sunday. Dundalk might feel that a little more thrust and composure in the backline might have earned a different result, but the home side started without a couple of major players, and ended having had to shuffle positions a couple of times, and in the end dug out a win - click here to read the match report | click here to view match photos

We can't recommend his business highly enough should your washing machine, or domestic appliance, break down (we speak from personal experience!).

14.02.12 - Skerries Under 15's vs Ashbourne - North East League - Youth & Minis
An explosive start, the best for the Under 15s this season. 26.01.12 - Skerries’ find their way in Ratoath - Youth & Minis

Skerries blew away the new year cobwebs at Holmpatrick on Saturday with a win that kept them top of the league. 28.11.11 - Skerries Under 21's vs UCD
The U21's applied themselves with steely purpose on Sunday. Having elected to play against a stiff breeze the side laid their intentions out from the start when Tom O'Hare claimed the kickoff. Dominating the set pieces and maintaining possession in the first 20 minutes, limited the visitor's opportunities. After some smart structured rugby in the opposition 22 and working through the phases, the breakthrough came when Eoin Mathews sprung off the back of a powerful forwards drive to open the account - click here for the match report and photos

20.11.11 - How the Club got it's Goat - By Dropout
In the course of the last thirty-five years, 32 duly appointed Presidents have shaped and steered the destinies of Skerries Rugby Club. He has been an impasssive witness to afternoons of great euphoria - read the full article here

16.11.11 - Skerries Under 15's win with skill... - Youth & Minis
The win was already secured, but it was the try of the match. Sam Toft had made a bustling break up the field and after a couple of phases Luke Cullen took the ball on the 22 in tight space with the DLSP fullback closing in. A sweet check and sidestep made him a gap to squeeze through and score a fine winger’s try - click here to read the match report
16.11.11 - Under 8's and Under 11's have a great weekend... - Youth & Minis

The U8’s hosted a Blitz on Sunday with visitors including Navan, Balbriggan, Ashbourne and Ardee. In total we had eight visiting teams (of at least eight players each) who all played three matches. Skerries had two teams participating who both played exceptionally well in all matches. The standard of rugby is improving weekly and kids are growing in confidence with tackling and rucking becoming second nature. In total 80 kids enjoyed a great morning of sport with brisk but fine sunny weather. Parents should also be commended for putting on a great spread of sambos and cakes etc for our visitors after the matches in the club house.

Meanwhile, Skerries U11s had the first home game last Sunday when hosting Balbriggan and Ashbourne. It was our biggest turn out so far - with coaches doing their best to give game time to all 37 players!

21.10.11 - Under 15's: Skerries too hot for Coolmine (Skerries 50 Coolmine 3) - Youth & Minis

Over the years Coolmine and Skerries have had many close fought games but this time around, a depleted Coolmine were no match for the home side. The tone was set in the first few minutes when George Harrington burst over to touch down, and then Ben O’Keeffe continued his recent scoring form with a try after a 35-metre run. The Skerries ...forwards won most of the loose contests and the backs’ ball handling was excellent. Lorcan Jones was in his usual sparkling form and scored no less than four tries, while flying wingers Luke Cullen and Fionn Geraghty completed the try-scoring list.

There were 23 players in the panel, and there was a virtual revolving door on the touchline with subs going in and out, and sidelined players anxious to get back in the game. Conor Morgan made his debut with the U-15s. Nathan Roy and Callan Boyle put in good games and Jake Deering gave a gritty performance at flanker. Ciaran Frawley’s marshalling of the back line was impressive as usual and he converted five of the tries. Well done all, but there will be tougher games ahead!

17.10.11 - Skerries Under 12's continue good form... - Youth & Minis
Following good matches against Suttonians, Navan and Mullingar in recent weeks, Skerries Under 12's hit some great form this weekend. The Gold team put in a very solid display at near neighbours Balbriggan. Not to be outdone, the Blue squad travelled a little further, to Malahide, and also had a great match. Impossible to single out individual players as there were simply too many good performances from the Skerries boys. Next training session is at 18:30 at the Club on Friday. Next match v North Meath Sunday 30th October.
16.10.11 - Skerries move up to second spot in the league table

Skerries RFC are delighted to announce that Owen Taaffe has been named as 'Evening Herald Club Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Year' by the Leinster Branch, at the Annual Awards Ball which was held in the Burlington Hotel, Dublin on Saturday May 7th.

"Like any thriving local club side, Skerries is much the focal point of the community and a club who have produced a stream of outstanding administrators and players over the years. It is worth noting that during the Winter cold snap, they opened the gates of their club with open arms to the Leinster squad when all other grounds were deemed unplayable, a gesture which facilitated the squad's preparations for the December Heineken Cup ties against ASM Clermont Auvergne and summed up the ethos of the club. Owen has consistently raised the bar with consistent coverage of the progressive north Dublin seaside club both locally and nationally and is a worthy winner of the Evening Herald Club PRO of the Year." - source, www.leinsterrugby.ie - view photos of the evening here
