Skerries RFC u15’s host RC Riom u15’s - “les Riomois” (28th April to 1st of May)
The generosity of Skerries RFC families and members through the hosting programme, sponsorship of various kinds and in giving of their time to help with a myriad of activities in the Club, went, in no small way, towards making this a “weekend fantastique” (and the weather helped!).
Skerries President Mr. Sean Carron warmly welcomed RC Riom President Ms. Philippe Cirotte, and his wife Annette and the 25 boys and their 4 coaches on this inaugural visit to Skerries.
Riom is a small town just north of Clermont-Ferrand in the Massif Central region of France. They have connections with the Clermont Auvergne Rugby Club. Traditionally, touring teams from this location in France do not visit Ireland, but all this is about to change as the boys from both Clubs are now firm friends and e-mail addresses and facebook additions have been exchanged and plans are being made to return the visit next year.
The match (result is incidental) was enjoyed by a sizeable crowd on a bright, sunny day in Holmpatrick (Skerries just edged it in a very lively and sporting game).
The object of this exercise was to develop friendships and expose all the boys to the true spirit of playing Rugby in an international environment. The French phrasebook will be referenced and close attention will be paid in French class from now on in preparation for the adventure ahead.
Well done to all involved.
