Skerries U17’s vs Roscrea
Skerries 17
Roscrea 10
Skerries u17's took on Roscrea in Holmpatrick in the 1st round of the Leinster Schools/Youth Cup on Sat. the 13th and emerged the winners of a sluggish game. The 1st half was a scrappy affair with neither side scoring. The 2nd half started with well worked try from the visitors with the 1st move after the whistle. Skerries eventually got into the game and began to dominate. David Sisk displayed quintessential centre three-quarter play by fixing two defenders before releasing a superb pass to Shane Davis who raced to score in the corner. Shane then converted the distant goal with a powerful left boot.
For the 2nd time in a week another opposition coach heaped praised the Skerries back row of AJ Sherlock, Niall Collins and Joe Palmer. Mr. reliable Eoghan Fox at fullback along with Chris Delemere at scrum-half are now key players in this side. Peter Rooney, Steven Dwyer and Pierce Carthy-Heffernan in the front row steadied the scrum and were very evident in the loose. Even the Skerries touch judge played his part with creative flagman-ship which the Ref. had to over-rule at one stage.
The under foot conditions were heavy which challenged the fitness levels of a few for this sides 1st home game of this '09/'10 season.
They should thrive on less sticky pitches which will be available next season but they have more immediate campaigns to complete and need to focus from the 1st whistle if they are to lift a trophy or two this season. The coaching staff are continuing to develop these young players which should provide a very able playing pool of adult players over the next 10 - 15 years or so. |
