President’s Message 2020-2021
Dear Members and Friends,
We commence our new rugby season in the strangest and most challenging of circumstances.
The Covid 19 pandemic has caused us all to rethink and restructure our lives in an unprecedented manner. It is a huge credit and a source of pride that Skerries RFC had the foresight to recognise the valuable work being undertaken by “essential services” in the early weeks of the pandemic. Wearing the ”community club” badge, club members volunteered of their time and effort and were instrumental in providing several hundred meals over a three-week period to professional staff at the front line of the crisis. Well done to all concerned.
Our Return to Rugby is not without its own unique challenge. I would like to acknowledge the immense amount of work that Mark Harrington has done, in recruiting his team of Covid Officers for each individual team, ensuring that we can commence training and matches within IRFU guidelines.
To all our teams, at all levels, gender and age groups, I wish you a very successful and injury free season. Our Senior 1st team entertained us so well last season with their wonderful attacking rugby. It was truly a great shame, as we sat atop the AIL league table, that their season was abruptly ended. But I am sure they will pick up where they left off and continue to entertain and excite us on match days. Also, our 2nd fifteen finished the regular season at the top of their Metro League. And our minis/youths and ladies, who at the premature end of their season, were progressing nicely in their respective competitions.
I would also like to thank the General Committee, referees, medical staff, match day doctors, physios, S & C coaches, match day stewards and all club members who volunteers of their time in committing to the daily running of our club.
To our club sponsors, we continue to be grateful for their continued support. We could not operate without their generous and continued input and I would like to welcome our new 1st team sponsors, Progressive Credit Union. We look forward to building our relationship to the mutual benefit of all parties concerned.
I extend a warm Rockleyoke welcome to all club members, supporters, match officials and visiting teams and express my sincere gratitude for your continuing support.
I am proud and privileged to have been chosen as President of Skerries RFC and it is a great honour for me and my family to follow in the footsteps of some truly great presidents who have preceded me.
